Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)
Environmental
Management System
“ Think
globally, act locally ” – the
wellknown
credo for addressing
environmental
issues – also expresses
the objective
of ISO’s many
environmental standards.
These standards reflect global
consensus
on good environmental
practice in the
international context
that can be applied
pragmatically by
organizations all over
the world in their
particular situation.
ISO has a
two-pronged approach to meeting
the needs of all
stakeholders from
business, industry,
governmental authorities
and non-governmental
organizations,
as well as consumers, in
the field of the
environment.
An
Environmental Management System
(EMS) is a framework that allows
an organization to consistently
control its significant impacts
on the environment, reduce the
risk of potentially costly
pollution incidents, ensure
compliance with environmental
legislation and continually
improve its business operations.

ISO 14001..)

Health &
Safety Management System (OHSAS
18001)
An
Occupational Health and Safety
Management
System (OHSMS) is a
framework that allows an
organisation to
consistently identify and
control
its health and safety risks,
reduce the potential
for accidents, help
achieve compliance with
health and safety
legislation and continually
improve its performance.
OHSAS 18001 is an
internationally accepted
specification that
defines the requirements for
establishing,
implementing and operating an
OHSMS. The specification
was developed with
the assistance of a
number of international
standards and
certification bodies.
Therefore, OHSAS 18001 fills a
void, in that there
is currently no
international ISO standard
suitable
for independent
third-party certification.
